New Week Ripples

August 27, 2023

I love Sunday.

I love the start of a new week.

I love the preparation that goes into setting the stage for a successful week ahead.

I think of Sunday as making a splash into the pool. Throwing the wishing stone into the pond. Sending the Starfish back into the ocean.

We often talk about Monday, and I do love Monday, too. But Sunday is what really determines the rest of the week. I had the privilege of working for FranklinCovey, founded by author of "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", Dr. Stephen R. Covey. One of the core principles in planning starts on Sunday. Sunday is meant to be the day to "Sharpen the Saw".

On Sunday we reflect. We look at the past week and make adjustments. We look at the week to come and make plans. We take time to be grateful, perhaps sharing a meal with family and friends. We set new goals, we strive for progress. We may 'start on Monday' but we mentally prepare for it on Sunday. We meal prep for the week. We get our sneakers and workout clothes together for Monday, making sure the laundry is done and we have clean clothes to wear. We begin to think ahead.

New Week Ripples happen today. We recharge our bodies, minds and spirits for what will come next. So even if you choose to follow "Sunday Funday" make sure you take a few moments to sharpen the saw; it will help make whatever metaphoric 'tree that falls into your week' that much easier to clear from your path and progress.
