Today is my husband's 40th Birthday!
I love celebrating him! Over the weekend we had the best fiesta, with over 100 friends coming out to wish him well and toast us on our recent marriage. One of the greatest gifts we can ever receive, is quality time with the ones we love the most. Mike and I rarely exchange materialistic gifts, as we both prefer to make memories and celebrate through fun experiences.
When we discuss "lifestyle" we are never talking about "the things" but always talking about the "time". How we use our time and the more of it we have to take great adventures and do really cool stuff, is perhaps the biggest cause for our celebrations. While we do have all the cool toys, and enjoy all the comforts at home, our ideal lifestyle isn't about having fancy cars or upgrading our home every ten years. (And if that is your ideal lifestyle, we completely love that for you, too! We will be the ones coming to visit and hang out at your place when we vacation!!! So, I'm definitely not trying to talk you out of it!)
One of my husband's greatest qualities is figuring out the minimum effort required to gain the maximum reward. He did this throughout his entire life... From graduating High School + College with Honors to earning Airman of the Year in the Air Force, and probably also what has contributed to his countless Black Belts in multiple martial arts disciplines. The common denominator in each of these pursuits (which he is super successful at accurately calculating) is time and effort.
And please, don't let me misguide you in my point, he is far from ever being labeled as lazy. He just puts the majority of his effort in doing things with greater impact and leverage. One of my husbands love languages is acts of service. If Mike can help, he will never say no to a friend in need. He doesn't ever pay fees, he always earns interest--and that isn't purely financially speaking. I'll never forget when he explained to me, his mission in a day is to get to zero things left to do as quickly as possible. So, today, on his 40th Birthday, he's running an errand that requires some manual labor, and was out of the house to accomplish this before 9 am.
I feel everyone can gain some wisdom for living their best life from Mike. Help me wish him a very happy birthday and continue to celebrate him as he most certainly deserves!
